A Celebration of Culture and Community
Step into a world where history and heritage come alive at the Black History Celebration, hosted at People’s Community Center this February 3rd. This event is more than just a gathering; it's a vibrant showcase of African American achievements and contributions across economic, cultural, spiritual, and political spheres. With a rich array of activities from dance performances to spoken word, arts & crafts, and more, the celebration promises an immersive experience that honors the past while inspiring the present. Free and open to all, it's an unparalleled opportunity to engage with the community and celebrate the indelible impact of African Americans on our society.
Engaging Activities for All Ages
From the excitement of a scavenger hunt to the creative expression of art activities, the Black History Celebration offers something for every member of the family. Early in the day, guests can explore community resources, including representatives from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), sororities, fraternities, trade schools, and job/career recruiters. Special highlights include free haircuts and engaging performances such as the Vision Step Team and Battle of the Bands. Special guest speakers, including Kwabi Amoah-Forson and Arvin Mosley, alongside readings by BIPOC authors, enrich the day with knowledge and inspiration, making this event not just a celebration but a learning experience.
Dive Into the Spirit of the Community
The Black History Celebration culminates in a free family swim session, welcoming everyone from 1:00 to 3:00 pm, with swim caps provided to accommodate all styles of hair. This unique offering symbolizes the inclusive spirit of the event, inviting attendees to not only engage with cultural and educational activities but also to enjoy moments of joy and relaxation together. Hosted by Metro Parks Tacoma, this celebration is a testament to the community's commitment to honoring diversity and fostering a sense of belonging.
